The annual cost of running Italy's lower parliament chamber, the Chamber of Deputies, exceeds the combined cost of Britain's House of Commons, Germany's Bundestag, France's Assemblée Nationale and Spain's Congress of Deputies. Giorgio Napolitano, Italy's president, has a salary of €230,000 per year. However, a senior shorthand secretary in parliament can earn up to €270,000 annually.
