US employment growth slowed in March; More than 4m private-sector jobs created in two years

Last Friday's US employment report showed continued growth in the labour market, but at a slower pace than over the previous four months. The official unemployment rate fell from 8.3% to 8.2% in March. The economy has generated positive jobs growth for the last eighteen months. Employer payrolls increased by 120,000 jobs in March, with manufacturing and health care posting large gains. “Our economy has now created more than 4m private-sector jobs over the past two years and more than 600,000 in the past three months,” he said. “There will still be ups and downs along the way,” the president said. “We’ve got a lot more work to do.”
